New Cutie Pattern -- Cobblestones!

2020 has been, to say the least, an odd year.  I looked back to see when I last released a Cutie Pattern and it was in late 2019.  It's definitely time to release a new one, don't you think?

Obliging as I am, I present:  Cobblestones!


I decided to make this quilt using some very happy 30s reproduction fabrics:


I had a lot of fun quilting this quilt kit with ribbon candy, continuous curve, and swirls in the border.


After I quilted it, I realized that I teach all three of these techniques in my First Steps to Free-Motion Quilting class.  If you haven't purchased the class yet, do so now because the price will go up on September 16.


At the request of students, I put together a kit of my favorite 10 machine quilting threads.  I used white thread for this quilt and have bundled a cone of white Konfetti cotton thread with a cone of white DecoBob thread for the bobbin for those who use white thread as much as I do!

I became a great aunt this weekend and a special little girl might receive this quilt (her mom gets to choose from a stack of happy baby quilts).

For the Love of a Scrap Quilt

 I am in the middle of a month of medical treatments that leave me feeling punky and the best medicine for that is to jump into my scraps and make a new scrap quilt. Fortunately, the newest Quilter's World Magazine arrived in my mailbox at the perfect time!  Tricia Lynn Maloney designed Ski Party using a brightly colored jelly roll.  I knew I had scrappy gray 2 1/2" strips already cut in my stash, so I toned down her adorable quilt. I could complain about the really bright sun on this autumn day and how it washed out the color in my photograph a little bit, but I won't because... sun.  In autumn. Inspired by the machine quilting on the sample done by Cheryl Weiderspahn, I stitched a royal blue ribbon meander. Getting in the Holiday Spirit

It's been a long, hot summer here in New York and I tried to make myself feel a little cooler by finishing my Woodsy Noel Cutie Quilt.   My friend Tara, from Orchard Hill Quilting , designed this quilt and I'm totally obsessed with the adorableness of it. In December, I had a quilting event near my niece and nephew .  They are quite young and it was fun seeing them get excited about Christmas!  Right then, I knew that they needed this quilt while they were still young enough to love Santa. Santa's hat needed some ribbon candy, naturally.  He needed a curly beard and rosy cheeks, too! The trees were decorated with ribbon candy as well!  (Imagine that!) For every other family member who has waited and Waited and WAITED for Aunt Debby to send her very late gifts, I need to make it known that I was early with a gift.  Once.  And it will never happen again. I made this quilt from fabric in my stash.  What fabrics would you use?

Benartex Christmas in July Blog Hop

I'm so excited!  Today is my day on the Benartex Christmas in July Blog Hop!! Jim Shore has long been a staple of Christmas decorating and I wanted to show this fabric line off to its fullest.  I chose my Nearly There Cutie Pattern because its large pieces showcase the prints. For the folks who are new to my blog/website, a Cutie Pattern always uses 16 fat eighths plus extras (borders, background, etc.).  A Cutie Pack  (16 fat eighths) is an economical way to buy fabric and and Cutie Patterns are written to minimize fabric waste. Here is the fabric that was left from making this quilt: Even though Cutie Quilts are great for beginner/frugal quilters who want to minimize their cash outlay, they are also great for long-time quilters (like me!) who are drowning in scraps.  Cutie Quilts don't add much to my scrap piles.  Phew! I love designing quilts, but I also love to machine quilt them! When I baste a quilt, I know that the next step is a day or two
