Simplicity, A La Mode

Image
I might be guilty of loving my  A La Mode Cutie Pattern  a little too much.  I might also have a dozen of these already quilted and waiting to be given away.   K its for this quilt  are on sale so you can make one (or a dozen), too! I have loved low-volume fabric since it was called "neutral."  So I made a neutral A La Mode quilt with a Low-Volume Cutie pack and peach background. I decided to quilt this with meandering/stippling.  I teach how to meander/stipple  in my  First Steps to Free-Motion Quilting online class .  If "learn to stipple" is on your bucket list, check out my class. This quilt is sitting in the gift pile.   I know it will be the perfect get well, thinking of you, miss you, housewarming, or any other reason gift for someone. Sometimes, simple quilts in simple colors with simple quilting are just perfect.

This week's Wednesday video is a continuation of how I quilted the background of the Full Heart panel . If you liked this video and want to learn more free-motion quilting on your home sewing machine, enroll in my First Steps to Free-Motion Quilting Class .

Neutral Bowl of Cherries Cutie Quilt

Image
I recently remade my Bowl of Cherries Cutie Pattern in all neutrals for an elegant looking gift quilt. I like to give neutral quilts as wedding gifts, so this quilt will probably find its forever home with newlyweds. I quilted it with free-motion feathers using Lamb Tutti cotton thread in the needle and DecoBob Antique White thread in the bobbin. I recently finished filming my First Steps to Free-Motion Quilting class and will start filming a class about Threads and Needles and Batting.  In January, though, I will begin filming a class about how to quilt free-motion feathers on your home sewing machine, including the feather pattern I used on this quilt.  Sign up for my newsletter to make sure you don't miss any announcements about these classes. To see all of my online machine quilting classes, click HERE . I put together a kit for this elegant Bowl of Cherries quilt .  It's a fun and easy quilt to make, and it's on SALE!

Full Hearts Panel, Part 3

This week's Watch It Wednesday video features the Full Heart panel , available on my website.  I've shown how to stitch Filigree Feathers in the center hearts and how to outline the lines of hearts.  Join the free online class to see the first two videos.   This week, we're going to fill in some background.  Since I consider orange a "neutral" color for a background, I'm using a 50-weight bright orange variegated cotton from Tutti by WonderFil Specialty Threads. If you liked this video and want to learn more free-motion quilting on your home sewing machine, enroll in my First Steps to Free-Motion Quilting class.   But HURRY!  The "while I'm creating it" price ends on Friday, September 18, 2020.!

New Cutie Pattern -- Cobblestones!

Image
2020 has been, to say the least, an odd year.  I looked back to see when I last released a Cutie Pattern and it was in late 2019.  It's definitely time to release a new one, don't you think? Obliging as I am, I present:  Cobblestones! I decided to make this quilt using some very happy 30s reproduction fabrics : I had a lot of fun quilting this quilt kit with ribbon candy, continuous curve, and swirls in the border. After I quilted it, I realized that I teach all three of these techniques in my First Steps to Free-Motion Quilting class .  If you haven't purchased the class yet, do so now because the price will go up on September 16. At the request of students, I put together a kit of my favorite 10 machine quilting threads .  I used white thread for this quilt and have bundled a cone of white Konfetti cotton thread with a cone of white DecoBob thread for the bobbin for those who use white thread as much as I do! I became a great aunt this weekend and a special little girl
